Soraphat Panakorn
Shrimp Culture Specialist at Novozymes, Thailand

Mr. Soraphat Panakorn (Danny), a graduate from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, is a shrimp culture specialist with nearly 27 years of experience. He served as a technical consultant to several national and international projects with his practical experience in the most efficient utilization of inputs in shrimp farming, particularly troubleshooting in complex farming situations. He is a former Vice President of the Thai Aquaculture Business Association and a former Secretary of the Thai Shrimp Farmers Federation. Currently, he is working with the Thai Shrimp Network, Thai DoF PR Team, and Southern Thai Shrimp Club, and serves as a freelance columnist in Aquaculture Asia Pacific Magazine, writing about practical shrimp farm management suitable for Asia.



Suthep Putippayawongsa
Aquaculture Consultant, Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), Thailand.

Mr. Suthep Putippayawongsa had been a technician at CP Thailand during 1980-1988, then worked as Farm Manager/Project manager/Consultant/ in private companies and also started own farm during 1988-2008, Later he worked as an FAO Consultant TCDC Shrimp Expert, Partner Program of Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, (Station: Abuja & Lagos, Nigeria) from 2008-2011, and also as Vice President/Aquaculture Business Consultant at PT. Central Proteinaprima Tbk. CP Prima Group, CP Indonesia from 2012-2016. Currently, he is working as a Business Consultant, serving the aquaculture industry in Thailand and overseas.



David K Kawahigashi
Founder and Director of Vannamei 101, Hawaii, USA

David Kawahigashi has 40 years of technical and management experience in all phases of shrimp aquaculture. He is the founder and Director of Vannamei 101 (2006-present), an aquaculture consulting and training company based out of Hawaii. Following graduation from the University of Hawaii, David worked in Hawaii from 1979-1986 and throughout Central and South America from 1986 until 2003. Since 2004 to the present, he has been instrumental in the rapid development of Penaeus vannamei culture in Asia and Latin America through training and technology transfer of new procedures. His areas of expertise include design and implementation of multi-phase, intensive production systems, genetic programs and hatchery management. He is proficient in initiating and operating start-up projects, budget preparation, and technical SOP manuals for all phases of shrimp culture. His current focus is on sustainable shrimp farming using synbiotics, super intensive circular tank model and recirculation systems in both Asia and the Americas.



U. Win Latt
Managing Director and Founder at Aqua Global Environs Co., Ltd., and World Bank Consultant

U Win Latt is an international consultant and a Managing Director at Aqua Global Environs (AGE). He specializes in shrimp aquaculture, biosecurity, quality assurance, capacity building and management. His expertise expanded to vertically integrated aquaculture operation engaged with private sector and international projects in Asia, Middle east and North America regions. Prior to joining AGE, he engaged with PT. CP Prima Tbk. as Vice President (Aquaculture) from 2007 to 2016 managing vertically integrated aquaculture operation, R&D, and headed Quality Assurance division and Technical Audit. He developed the “Wastewater Reclamation and Reuse System” for intensive P. monodon culture and successfully implemented it on a commercial scale for PT. CP Indonesia in the 1990s. He is an alumnus of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and a major contributor of FAO Fisheries Technical Paper. No. 446 “Improving Penaeus monodon hatchery practices: Manual based on experience in India”. Recently, he has completed background documents and guideline recommendations on “Water and Waste Management”, and “Innovations and Technological Development” chapters of FAO’s “Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture”, developed “Shrimp Cluster Biosecurity” for the World Bank funded “Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project of the Fisheries Department, Government of Bangladesh.



Sorawit Powtongsook
Director of Integrative Aquaculture Biotechnology Research Group, BIOTEC, Thailand

Dr. Sorawit Powtongsook Principal Researcher / Research Group Director at the Integrative Aquaculture Biotechnology Research Group of the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand. He has over 30 years of experience in aquaculture technology, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), algae and plankton biotechnology, and wastewater treatment using bacteria and algae. He is one of the founding members of the Algal and Plankton Association of Thailand and has served as its secretariat. He has developed recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) from the lab scale to commercial prototype. He has published over 70 papers in national and international scientific, peer-reviewed journals and has presented more than 150 conference papers. He received an Innovation Ambassador Award from the National Innovation Agency. He received research grants from the Thailand Toray Science Foundation and the International Foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden.



Kriengkrai Satapornvanit
Lecturer at Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University, Thailand

Kriengkrai Satapornvanit is currently a Lecturer at the Department of Fishery Biology, Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University. He teaches courses such as Physiology of Aquatic Animals, Fundamentals of Ecology, Ecology of Fish; Aquatic Toxicity and Hazard Evaluation; and conducts research covering water quality, integrated farming, socio-economics, fish dynamics, environmental impacts, and other interdisciplinary topics; supervising students for special studies and practicum. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Aquaculture/Ecotoxicology) from University of Stirling, Scotland, U.K. in 2006, after completing his Master of Science (Aquaculture) from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 1993, and Bachelor of Science (Aquaculture) from Kasetsart University, Thailand in 1988. He had also held position of Associate Dean for Research (2007 to 2011), and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2015 to 2019) at Kasetsart University.



Dr. Amararatne Yakupitiyage, Ph.D.
Adjunct Professor / Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand

Dr. Amara obtained his Ph.D. from Stirling. He specializes in designing of tropical aquaculture systems, aquaculture nutrition, and feed technology. His research involves aquaculture waste management and Biofloc systems. He has supervised around 130 Masters and 30 Doctoral students, and published over 60 peer-reviewed papers.



Krishna R. Salin
Associate Professor and Chair, Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM), AIT, Thailand

Dr Krishna R. Salin is the Chair of the Aquaculture Program at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, coordinating and supervising aquaculture research and education at AIT. He is the President of the World Aquaculture Society Asian-Pacific Chapter (WAS-APC) and Honorary Director of the intergovernmental Network for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific (NEDAC), Bangkok. Dr. Salin is also an Associate Editor for the Elsevier journal Aquaculture Reports and a Visiting Professor at Shanghai Ocean University in China. Besides, he offers customized training programs and technical consulting services to governments, researchers, and businesses worldwide, based on the AIT's Sustainable Asian Aquaculture platform.
