The Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Program of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) collaborated with CapFish Project in Cambodia and organized an Exposure visit for 30 Master trainers selected from among lead technical officers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Fisheries, including progressive farmers in Cambodia, from 23 to 29 April 2023.
The objective of the study visit was to learn the freshwater aquaculture in Central Thailand, focusing on inland aquaculture systems and practices. This visit was intended to build a strong cadre of trainers able to offer national training courses for aquaculture managers in Cambodia, building on the knowledge, tools, and skills already acquired in their previous training programs.
The Master Trainers with good experience in aquaculture had previously received training in topics like farm site selection criteria, production systems and species, feed management, training skills, fish health and welfare, biodiversity, aquaculture regulations, water quality management, gender, business skills, breeding/seed production, environmental impact, sustainable aquaculture (GAqP), and ICTs in aquaculture.
The Exposure Visit organized by AIT helped them acquire hands-on skills and deeper knowledge in advanced aquaculture technologies, equipping them well to provide training to the Local Trainers (in various Cambodian provinces).
