On 6 November 2025, the Aquaculture Program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), together with the Institute of Aquaculture – University of Stirling, Open Philanthropy, and the Asian Fish Welfare Network (AFWN), successfully organized the AFWN Workshop at the Milton Bender Auditorium, AIT, under the theme “Improving Welfare of Farmed Animals for the Benefit of Thailand Aquaculture – Good Welfare is Better Business.” The event brought together 48 participants representing key stakeholders, including BIOTEC-NSTDA, Arnan Farm, Bonsawang Farm, FAIFarms, Creativelabs, Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability, Global Seafood Alliance, CPF, FutureFish, NACA, Chiangmai University, KMUTT, Burapha University, Suranaree University of Technology, Chulalongkorn University, along with Master’s and Doctoral student observers from the AIT Aquaculture Program.

Throughout the workshop, participants gained insights from informative lectures on aquaculture welfare across the value chain, traceability, social science, and certifications. A group discussion session allowed participants to collaborate and present actionable ideas to enhance fish welfare within Thai aquaculture and its related value chains. With dynamic engagement and meaningful dialogue, the workshop was both productive and enjoyable, marking a strong step forward in promoting responsible and sustainable aquaculture practices—where good welfare truly is better business.
