From October 16–23, 2024, the Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) program at AIT facilitated an aquaculture exposure visit for a delegation from the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. The visit aimed to foster knowledge exchange and explore advancements in aquaculture practices in Vietnam and Thailand.

The delegation, comprising ten members led by the Director of Fisheries, began their journey in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, attending the International Conference on Aquaculture 2024 on October 17–18. This global event provided insights into emerging trends and innovations in aquaculture. The group then traveled to Ho Chi Minh City, where they visited aquaculture facilities, including the TOMOTA office, to learn about the latest technologies and industry practices.

The final three days of the visit were spent in Thailand, focusing on aquaculture farms near Bangkok. Highlights included:

  • The Ornamental Fish and Aquatic Plants Cultivation Technology Transfer Research and Development Center (Pathumthani Province), focusing on ornamental fish breeding and aquatic plant propagation.

  • Giant freshwater prawn farm in Nakhon Pathom Province, demonstrating high-quality culture techniques and strategies for accessing the export market to China and other countries.

  • Koi Mart Farm in Nonthaburi Province, where advanced filtration systems and feed optimization techniques for koi cultivation were demonstrated.

  • Namsai Farm in Prachinburi Province, highlighted novel practices in black and red tilapia farming..

This exposure visit provided the delegation with a comprehensive understanding of Thailand’s aquaculture industry and its integration of advanced technologies and sustainable practices, strengthening ties between India, Thailand, and Vietnam in aquaculture development.
