Heartfelt Condolences for the sudden passing away of Prof. Sena S. De Silva on 6 May 2020 in Australia after a brief period of illness.
AIT's aquaculture community is deeply saddened by the sudden passing away of Prof. Sena S. De Silva on Wednesday in Australia after a brief period of illness. Prof. Sena had been a great friend of AIT, closely associated with the Aquaculture Program. He helped AARM in various ways, notably serving as the External Examiner for several doctoral candidates to improve our research standards with his critical guidance.
Prof. Sena had a remarkably long and an accomplished career spanning over 50 years as Professor, Chair and Honorary Professor at Deakin University's School of Life and Environmental Sciences, and as the Director-General of Network of Aquaculture Centers in the Asia Pacific (NACA) in Bangkok, Thailand, after serving the universities of Ruhuna and Vidyalankara in Sri Lanka. He leaves behind the legacy of quality aquaculture profession passed onto his numerous students, and he is ever remembered by his over 300+ scientific publications, with some of the most valuable treatises on aquaculture among them.
On behalf of the AIT's AARM alumni, we express our deep sadness and sorrow on his sudden demise and convey our deep gratitude to the bereaved family. RIP Prof. Sena, you will always be remembered by the international aquaculture community.
